The Climate Camp will offer students a special opportunity to receive professional audio training. High school students from six partner communities will learn skills producing short audio segments including interviews and information from scientific and community experts and other conference participants.
The students will be using the latest digital editing software to create the audio pieces that will be shared at the conference and aired on the radio in their home communities. After the conference each student will have access to field recording kits as well as the editing software to be able to continue to produce segments in their own communities.
Miriam Elizondo is excited to be participating in the Climate Camp. She will be providing the media instruction to the students and facilitating audio editing workshops during the conference. Miriam is a filmmaker by profession. She studied filmmaking and animation at the University of Illinois at Chicago and worked on various television productions including ‘Image Union’ for PBS at WTTW/Chicago, ‘Chicago Slices’ for WPWR/Ch.50 and in a number of corporate industrial, and independent films. Since arriving in Homer a few years ago she’s been busy teaching experimental filmmaking to adults and kids and is one of founding members of the Homer Film Society, a grassroots organization dedicated to the promotion of independent, creative film.
