The sites below offer regional, national, and local Bering Sea/ Alaska overviews of current climate change data and effects.

I: National and Regional Scale Info:

(a) NSIDC: Homepage http://www-nsidc.colorado.edu/ .

The National Snow and Ice Data Center is part of the University of Colorado Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, and is affiliated with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Geophysical Data Center. They also work with NASA and the National Science Foundation. For credible science-based information on sea ice changes, go to the NSIDC homepage, At this excellent site, you can:

  • Get answers to frequently-asked questions about sea ice and climate change impacts to sea ice

(b) ACIA: Homepage http://www.acia.uaf.edu/ .

The Arctic Climate Impact Assessment is a comprehensive report contains current scientific knowledge about global climate change trends and effects compiled from over 300 scientists and indigenous residents of the Arctic region. This important study is a must-read. It includes chapters on how climate change is affecting sea ice and wildlife, from an indigenous perspective. It’s easy to browse through and full of great maps and other imagery. Visit the ACIA Homepage to download the full report (Arctic Climate Impact Study, 1200+ pages) at or the Summary Report (Impacts of a Changing Arctic, 140 pages).

(c) Visit the Global Warming Facts & Our Future from the Marian Koshland Science Museum for the latest information on the effects of climate change on health.  This site reveals the science behind global warming and examines the possible implications of this phenomenon on the quality of life around the world.
